IFI CLAIMS Patent Services
Patent Intelligence and Technology Report
Description
This material provides samples of the types of information available in the
various IFI PI&T Report products. The information presented in this
demo version of the PI&T Report is comprised of live data extracted from the
CLAIMSŪ database and represents patent statistics
compiled for companies receiving between 40 and 50 U.S. patents in 1999.
The electronic version of the
Patent Intelligence & Technology Report (PI&T)
is an extension of the annual publication. The companies covered in each monthly update are the same as those appearing in the most recent printed annual edition.
The annual Patent Intelligence & Technology report contains information on all companies, U.S. and foreign, receiving ten or more U.S. Utility and/or Statutory patents in the most recent calendar year. IFI performs extensive company name standardization to insure that all patents pertaining to each company are reflected in the statistical counts.
The electronic version of the report provides continuing up-to-date information on those same companies until the list changes with the next annual edition. The information for each monthly update is generated as soon as IFI has completed processing all patent information for the last issue week of the affected month. Updated listings are provided for the month as well as year to date.
A Ten Year Report covering the previous ten years and/or a Concordance of U.S. Classification to IPC Codes are also available for additional subscriptions.
The electronic PI&T Report provides the following information:
Company Name Lists
Distribution of Patents by Company Name
- This is an alphabetical listing of those companies that appeared in the latest annual edition and received at least 1 patent for the current month. The listings show the number of patents received for the month and year-to-date and the resulting rank assigned to that company. In addition, the patent counts displayed for each company name are set up as hyperlinks to the associated patent profile summaries. Simply click on the patent count to see a breakdown of the patents received by the company.
Distribution of Patents by Company Rank
- Listing of same companies in order by assigned Rank. The Rank for each company is based upon the number of patents received for the month and year-to-date and is used to identify the most active assignees. Companies receiving the same number of patents will also receive the same Rank and will be listed in alphabetical order within that Rank. Number of patents for each company name is also provided. Once again, the patent counts displayed for each company name are set up as hyperlinks to the associated patent profile summaries. Simply click on the patent count to see a breakdown of the patents received by the company.
Country Name Lists
Distribution of Patents by Country Name
- Listing of countries, including U.S., that received U.S. patents for the reported month. This information, although based upon Priority Country for the issued patents, is structured to identify the countries of the actual patent assignees. The list is in order by Country Name and shows the number of patents received and the corresponding rank. The code
EP may appear in this list because it is a valid entry in the Priority field and one or more assignees contained in the report filed all of their patents with a priority country of EP.
Distribution of Patents by Country Rank
- Listing of same countries in order by assigned rank. Country Rank is determined the same way as Company Rank and serves the same purpose. This list provides a convenient way to quickly identify other countries receiving significant numbers of U.S. patents. This section also shows the number of patents received along with the Rank.
U.S. Subject Area Classification Lists
Distribution of Patents by Original Reference (O.R.) Class - Class Order

Subject Area Analysis by Company
Company Profiles -- Month and Year-to-Date
- This section of the report provides information on the distribution of patents received by each company. Breakdown includes number of Chemical, Electrical and Mechanical patents received as well as individual totals for each U.S. Classification and International Patent Classification (IPC). The U.S. Class and IPC codes are set up as hyperlinks so that you may easily view the complete list of companies for each subject area of interest. Concordance of U.S. Classification to IPC Codes
-
The IFI Concordance of Patent Classifications is arranged in two sections, U.S. Classification order and International Patent Classification (IPC) order.
For U.S. Classification Order - The number of patents shown for each class represents the total number of patents posted as an original reference for the current year. The first IPC listed is the best one-for-one reference to that U.S. Class as determined by our program. This IPC represents the largest single percentage of all patents originally referenced to that U.S. Class or it has the largest percentage of multiple IPC's having the same first three characters.
For International Patent Classification Order - the same information is shown as for the U.S. Classification Section, only in IPC order. The number of patents shown is the total number of patents posted to the IPC for the current year.
