Our senior analyst Larry Cady will show attendees of the Patent Information Users Group (PIUG) Biotechnology conference how to combine data sources using Google’s BigQuery and Tableau. Using a CRISPR based example, he will join free public patent data, fee based enriched patent data, chemical annotations from SureChEMBL, and simulated private company data into one report.

The newly available BigQuery platform uses a familiar SQL interface to query patent data, and to merge it with other public and private data sources. Free basic patent data from IFI is available on BigQuery, as well as a paid table available by subscription that includes standardized names, legal status, and other data enrichments.

Tableau is one of several tools that can be used with BigQuery to create data visualizations. Its user-friendly query builder with drag and drop functionality makes it easy for beginners to get started. By using Tableau, users can join private data from their desktop to external information without the need for uploading it, maintaining security.

The event will take place February 21-22 in Cambridge, MA. See the full agenda and learn more on the PIUG website
