Oblon Tops List with 5,613 Granted to Clients

MADISON, Conn., June 13, 2012 — IFI CLAIMS®Patent Services, the leading producer of global patent databases, analytic solutions and innovative web services, today announced the top-50 patent law firms ranked by most U.S. patents granted to clients in 2011.  Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt led the list with 5,613 followed by Sughrue Mion with 3,389, and Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch came in third with 3,020.

According to IFI’s Mike Baycroft, the top-50 firms alone represent more than 23 percent of the total U.S. patent grants in 2011.  Baycroft’s analysis looks at several aspects including the high concentration of patents granted to non-U.S.-based clients.  He also considers how the largest firms in terms of number of attorneys are not directly correlated with the firms whose clients received the most patents.  For a complete analysis, visit IFI’s patent blog entitled, “Ranking the Top U.S. Patent Law Firms.”
